The United States is considering "specific targeted sanctions" against entities funneling financial support to the military in Myanmar after it detained civilian leaders in a bloodless coup this week, the White House said Thursday.

"Without getting too far ahead of ourselves, we are reviewing the possibility of a new executive order and we are also looking at specific targeted sanctions both on individuals and on entities controlled by the military that enrich the military," National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said at a briefing.
